Ceteris paribus ~ Do you all remember what that means???
In case you've forgotten, it is Latin for "all other things being equal." It turns out to be a rather informative tool when applied to dietary habits, where you can ask yourself "how is this ONE behavior/habit of mine affecting my overall health and well-being?"
Here are a couple of examples:
Suppose you habitually consume a couple of soft drinks every afternoon. While the companies may call a serving 8 ounces, these beverages typically come in 12 ounce cans that are consumed entirely in one serving. So if you consume a couple of these 12 ounce cans per day, that's 142 calories x 2 cans for a total of 284 calories per day. NOW, take this total and multiply it by 365 to get your yearly intake estimate. In the example above that turns out to be 103,660 calories. If you thought, I was happy to have left math behind in high school Robert, well I have just one more calculation for you, divide that yearly estimate by 3500 (which equals the number of calories in a pound of fat) and you will see how that single habit is affecting your health and well-being. In the above example, 103,660/3500 = 29.62, which mean that ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL you can drop almost 30 pounds in one year by simply changing a single bad habit!!!
Another example:
Starbucks (whole milk) Grande Caffe Latte every day?
That's 260 calories x 365 = 94,900 calories/year ~ a whopping 27.11 lbs.
SO~ perhaps good health and well-being is simply a habit away? Explore the following link and find "your habit", then do the calculations to see exactly what it is "costing you."
Happy Calculating!!!
